You’ve released all of your tension at yoga, but now it’s time for work. How are you ever supposed to stay relaxed? Whether you work from home or commute to the city, creating a calm environment is crucial–including the time you spend in your car. After all, less stress leads to a more productive day! Try a few of these tips to keep tension at bay.
De-Clutter
You hear “clear your mind” in yoga class–now it’s time to apply that concept to your workspace. Which items do you use every day? Your computer, pens, phone, calendar. Keep those on top of your desk. Everything else can be organized in your drawers: papers, files, scissors, stapler, etc.
Add a low-maintenance plant and a few photos of your loved ones, and you’re all set! Before you leave your desk for the day, take a few minutes to re-organize so you can start fresh tomorrow morning!
Don’t forget to organize the files on your computer, too. What’s the point of having a cute picture of your pup as your wallpaper if you can’t even see it through all of those scattered files? Create folders with clear labels so you can easily find and access your documents.
Personalize
Speaking of pictures, include a few paintings or images that remind you of a positive experience. Avoid bringing in too many personalized trinkets that will only collect dust.
Soothing Scents
Say goodbye to stale office air! Bring in a diffuser or add a mixture of carrier oil and 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil to a spray bottle. Instant calm, energy or focus! Don’t forget to take a nice, deep breath.
Tune out the Stress
Music makes or breaks your day. Try using some of the same music (or types of music) from your yoga class to transfer the focus from your mat to your desk.
